Wedding Toast to the Bride
Such a great occasion,
Glad we're all side by side,
Rehearsing for the big day,
With this groom and his lovely bride.
Stephen and Suzanne,
A beautiful couple do they make.
Their life together will be golden,
Of course, for goodness sake.
They met, the story goes,
At First United Methodist Church,
A match that was made in heaven,
The result of quite a divine search.
They love to work with youngsters,
In 7th and 8th grade.
Together, as a couple,
They've got it made right in the shade.
Suzanne is smart and loving,
So cute and so much fun.
Stephen, sweet and so sincere,
In so many ways, the perfect son.
She's a graduate of Wake Forest,
Georgia Tech was his school.
As couples go, they're wonderful.
Good looking, and so cool.
He's smart and very witty,
She's smart and lovely, too.
And both so much in love,
I can se it; hey…can't you?
They have so many common interests,
From music to Shakespearean plays.
No idleness for this pair,
Lots of active days.
Suzanne's a gem in the family jewelry store,
Stephen works as a CPA,
Toiling for Georgia Pacific,
He makes his numbers every day.
He's quite a character, my son,
Ever since he was a boy.
He likes to play his tricks,
Making laughter, getting joy.
One time he called up Gee-Mama,
That's his grandma, folks, you know.
He pretended he was her preacher,
Sounded just like him…so?
They laughed out loud when Stephen
Said "Gee-Mama, it's only me."
But Gee-Mama, she's a wise one,
She wouldn't let it be.
A short time later the real preacher called,
She wouldn’t take this stuff.
She said "Stephen, cut it out,
I've had it with your guff."
The preacher set her straight,
He said, "Hey, I'm really me!"
Gee-Mama got so embarrassed,
As red as you can be.
That same Gee-Mama, by the way,
Doted on her grandson so.
Bought him cars and paid for college,
Loved him high and low.
Two others showed Stephen special love,
Aunt Nancy and Uncle Charlie are they.
They would take him on summer vacations,
And have great times in every way.
And Meredith, Stephen's sister,
How wonderful these two, so close.
If anybody wants the word on Stephen,
His sister Meredith knows.
Then my husband, Melton,
For Stephen a fine step-dad.
In all, lots of love and care and laughter,
Many good times our family had.
To Suzanne's loving parents,
Dear Lynne and Jerry Lock,
It's wonderful to be family,
Of that, you can take stock.
And Suzanne, dear, I'll say it,
From the bottom of my soul.
I truly just adore you,
And you two make each other whole.
I'm thrilled that you're with Stephen,
Such a special girl you are.
Suzanne and Stephen, both of you,
Like a double shining star.
So let the rehearsal end,
Let the wedding go for real.
These two newlyweds have it all,
An extraordinary package deal.
I wish you both all kinds of joy,
And love forever more.
With kids and health and peace,
And all the good that life is for.
Love
Judith
