Sample Wedding Toasts
Jenny Ann Penny. She used to love to use her full name because it rhymed.
8 months ago my younger sister was the maid of honor at MY wedding. Now it’s my great pleasure to return the favor – and I do so most eagerly, with a heart full of love.
Yes, sisters often argue, and we did. Plenty. But we could also be wonderful friends and playmates. It wasn’t always easy. Jenny is a girl w ho knows what she wants and she always manages to get it. Like on car trips when we were kids. She’d take up half the back seat all to her comfy self, while big brother Brian and I would have to squeeze ourselves into the other half. When her room got messy? I would be the one to clean it up.
But she’s an incredible sweetie, too. And one who makes friends as easy as anyone. In fact, she’s a real charmer. Today, Jenny works as an Occupational Therapist at a nursing home. There is NOBODY who’s better at working with the elderly – and she’s particularly charming with the older guys there. They love her. Everybody loves her.
Meanwhile, Jenny loves dogs. One in particular. Her 2 year old pooch, a pug named, most appropriately, Pugsley. He’s her baby. And I’m SURE he’d be here right now if they’d only let dogs into this place.
She also loves Craig Hammer, who is just an amazing guy. He’s a self-taught computer wizard. A truly great soul who’s had to work hard for everything in his life. Including Jenny. It took a great deal of effort to capture her heart and we’re glad he did; it’s wonderful that Craig will be a part of our family.
How sweet is Craig? Let me tell you just one story. Jenny always loved the rose garden at the Vanderbilt Mansion. In fact, she always said she wanted to get married there. But they just don’t allow weddings there. No matter. Craig did the next best thing. He proposed to Jenny right there, right in that lovely, enchanting garden. Jenny was so excited, so bursting with joy, that she ran up to strangers to tell them the news.
Another surprise is Craig – here today – in public – WITHOUT his hat. The man ALWAYS wears a hat.
Well, I say hats off to both of them.
To Jenny, my little sister who’s so funny and charming and outgoing. And to Craig, who’s hard working, generous and utterly determined.
You’re truly a beautiful couple in lots of ways, and we know you’re going to have a great, long life together.
In fact, this entire wedding party, all of us close family and dear friends of the bride and groom, have contributed mightily toward making this special day even more special. From the bridesmaids, Jenny’s wonderful friends Debie, Donna and Ceil...to the groomsmen, Brian, our brother, Steven, Craig’s brother, and Paul, Craig’s dear friend.
Then, of course, there are the parents of the bride and groom. Jenny’s folks, Mark and Judy Penny...and, of course, Craig’s mother Stella – and his father Stanley and stepmother Irene.
We ALL have only the best of wishes for this lovely couple. And I ask you all to join me in this toast to love everlasting, joy without end, health that’s always unwavering, and all the blessings that two great people should expect from a life shared long and well.
To the girl who’s name is a rhyme...to the boy who’s filled with pride and determination, may life bring you both all that you want – for ever and ever more.
