Examples of Maid of Honor Speech

Our little sister is getting married, and it's hard to believe that she is All grown up and doing something…well…as grown up as getting married.

Not that Judy isn't a mature adult. She's proved as much time and again. The fact is, Judy is a wonderful woman, a real person and an exemplar for All of us to behold and admire -- for a lot of reasons.

This marriage is just hard to believe because Judy, is the baby of the family. The 7th, and therefore the youngest, of 7 Barron children. And when you're the youngest of 7 you are, well, you're always the baby to those other six who happened to be born afore ya'.

Our little sis really had it hard in some very significant ways. Our dad passed away when Judy was just five. Then she and mom became inseparable -- until mom passed away some 4 years later. All 7 of us lost our dear parents in only a few years, and that was unbelievably tough. But Judy was just 9 -- and that had to be infinitely tougher.

Thank goodness, we 7 siblings have Always been close, Always there to take care of each other if need be. As a result, Judy always had a place to go. First she lived with our oldest sister, Karen. And then, for high school, she moved in with our oldest brother, Al. She stayed with Al and his family until she graduated high school.

Then she did us All proud by earning her degree at the University of Iowa. After that, a brand new career in journalism, and a fortuitous meeting with Michael -- which brings us, of course, to this wonderful place on this magicAl day, at the wedding of our little sister.

I have to say, Judy is a wonderful individuAl. She's bright, she 's thoughtful, and while she may be petite in statute, she can stand up to anyone or anything -- with a heart that's as big and warm and strong as any other that beats upon this whole wide world. Just ask any of her brothers and sisters. We'll tell you All about it.

What's most admirable is the way that Judy leaped over every obstacle that life threw in her path. She finished school on her own, built a great career, met -- and now married -- a great guy. No question about it, our little sister has amazing DRIVE.

But, ironicAlly, she doesn’t' drive a motor vehicle very well. In fact, her track record at driving is -- well, just listen:

At 13, she climbed onto my cherished moped -- and promptly smashed it right into the back of our garage.

Then there was that fabled day just before she was to receive her driver's license -- when she side-swiped a car that had the nerve to be parked on the same street where Judy was driving.

Rare is the day when any of Judy's brothers, sisters, nephews or nieces will voluntarily sit in a car if Judy is behind the wheel.

In fact, even if she's just sitting in a car, she's trouble waiting to happen. Once, as a crazy college student, our little Judy got picked up for public intoxication. The cops cuffed her and sat her down in the back seat of a patrol car. Of course, Judy immediately tried to make what turned out to be an ill-fated escape. Judy, that was a no-no.

She's as sassy as they come -- and she can take it or dish it out with the best of 'em.

She's wonderfully positive in attitude and style. Even with All the heartache and loss that she has had to endure, Judy Always moves forward, and Always looks ahead with confidence and assuredness.

And she reAlly values family -- often spearheading the effort to get us All together, for holidays or ANY day. In fact, regarding holidays, Judy invariably puts tremendous thought and effort into the gifts that she purchases for her 7 nieces and 3 nephews. Judy AlWAYS goes beyond that which is expected…and she always manages to do the extraordinary.

Well, little sister, you ARE extraordinary. And even though you'll Always be our LITTLE sister, we look UP to you for All kinds of the brightest, warmest, best reasons. You're an inspiration to us. Never forget it.

From your sisters Jill and Debbie, from your brothers Dana, George, Mark and Gary, from your nieces Tanya, Toby, Terri and Karen#133;and from your nephews, Robert, Steven and Paul, please know that our love for you is matched only by our admiration…and our respect. You're the best, Judy. It's as simple as that.

To you and Michael, our grandest wishes for a long and heAlthy life of peace and joy and good things. We still don't want to get into any car if you're doing the driving…but we'll STAND by you forever and ever more.

To our marvelous kid sister who's All grown up, and to our brand new brother-in-law…with great love and great wishes Always.

Love, Your family
