Wedding Anniversary Toasts - An Example

A 50 Year Carnival

Was it fate or was it karma
Or simply meant to be
Was Nancy searching for a farmer
Was Ray from Iowa he?

They met along the midway
At a carnival of lights
Bought two tickets for the ferris wheel;
Then the carousel of life

Not long there after, Ray proposed
Soon wedding bells were chiming
Nancy wore his ring of gold
Adorned with a baseball diamond

Their love was new and thoughts were filled
With a family just beginning
Two lovers in the bleacher seats
For a life with extra innings

When his newlywed bride had fallen ill
This shining-armour man
Proved his endless love for her
With chicken soup, can after can

Through early years of softball games
Enjoying every pitch
With Ray at work on the pitchers mound,
Nancy cheered as she cross-stitched

The family farm was thriving then
With livestock by the batch
There were pigs and calves and milking cows
And four children soon to hatch

Their flock began in earnest
With Norman and Norene
And just when the pens were nearly full
Came Bettie and Nadene

The daily work was plentiful,
And Raymond never stopped
Mom tended to the four of us
Dad worked his many crops

Mom filled our home with handiwork
So crafty and dynamic
With embroidery and hooking rugs;
With her painting and ceramics

With the help of God, and their strong belief
They've raised their family well
They always knew they'd wind up here
Since the day of their wedding bells

With nine grand-children, we're quite glad
That Mom and Dad live near us
It's no wonder that, with our many requests
Dad pretends he cannot hear us

Mom, it seems, is always cold
Forever near the heater
Dad stays hot, but drinks cold beer
My Mom, her margarita

With a love so strong after 50 years,
What couple could want more ?
Except perhaps another 50
(And I.S.U. in the Final Four)
