Birthdays. An anniversary. A
Memorial!
All of these important dates deserve to be celebrated with a heartfelt toast. Whether for a happy occasion such as a wedding or a sad one, such as a sympathy, it is important to mark the date.
Here's a true-life example of a 60th anniversary toast I wrote for Diana.
Dear Amy, she said, "Wow!! What a wonderful toast! Each time I read it
the tears begin to flow. Thank you so much for putting my words into such a
beautiful tribute to our friends. It will certainly make their 60th
Anniversary celebration extra special."

Edgar and Joayne Gottschalk, a.k.a. Edgar and Jo,
are among our dearest friends. We've been as close
as can be for over twenty-five years. And every one
of those years has been just fabulous.
We were next door neighbors in the early 80s when we
all lived on Lake Springfield. Those were marvelous
days. Our kids were still in school then, and we
made it a point to invite Edgar and Jo to all of our
family gatherings. Why not? They've been family ever
since.
And even though they've been spending winters in
Arizona, we're STILL close. Always close. In fact,
Edgar and Jo have been our loving "tour guides,"
showing us all around the southwest, and showing us
a great time in the process.
The Gottschalks are truly our best friends - and
wonderful people. They're hard workers, loyal,
considerate and fun. Their love, respect and warmth
toward each other has been a true inspiration.
They're giving, caring and altogether wonderful.
Each is so creative, too. Edgar is a marvelous
craftsman. His woodworking and stained glass are
wonders to behold. 2 of his stain glass windows
adorn our home today. We love them. And Jo? Her
needlepoint and ceramics and jewelry design are most
special. And she's a wiz at playing the organ.
One of the highlights of our year is Christmas with
the Gottschalks. They always treat us to an
outstanding Christmas Candlelight Dinner at the
Sangamo Club. What a wonderful night for the four of
us! We dress up formally and we have the greatest of
times -- replete with a table side serenade by a
string quartet.
Then, on Christmas Eve, we reciprocate, having Edgar
and Jo join us in our home for a loud and joyous
Christmas celebration. I couldn't imagine it without
them. In fact, it wouldn't be Christmas without
them.
Jo, Edgar - we're so lucky to have you folks as our
dear, dear friends. And we're proud as can be to be
family to each other. On this, the occasion of your
60th wedding anniversary, we wish you only the best
for good health, peace, joy and laughter. A marriage
like yours is truly magic. That the tenderness, the
joy, the love and the fun go on for 60 years and
counting is a wonder to behold. How truly SPECIAL
you are!
We love you dearly - and we wish you 60 years MORE
of the same. To our dear friends, Joayne and Edgar
Gottschalk, who are truly family forever, we
celebrate your life, your spirit and your marriage.
To many more years together - all of us.
Love
Diana
