Poems To Go - Creating Memorable Poems, Speeches, and Toasts for Every Occasion!

Sympathy Thoughts

When a loved one dies, father, mother, child, best friend, or pet the effect they had on you is everlasting.

If you have just experienced a loss, we at PoemsToGo extend our condolences to you.

At times like this, the bereaved often try to find poems to read at the memorial service or funeral of a loved one.

Let me help ease your grief with the creation of a lovely memorial poem or speech. Based on your remembrances on the decased, your poem or speech will be lovingly remembered. This is an opportunity to discuss the time they spent with you - in prose or in verse.

I recently lost my Nanny, at the ripe old age of 101 and wrote the poem on this page. My Mom said, "What a lovely tribute to Nanny, Amy. I know she is looking down on you with love."

A Sympathy Poem for my Nanny

If love could be stored like gold bullion
In heart vaults just like Fort Knox
All of us who knew Nanny Sarah would be rich
Knowing her was like owning good stocks.

'Course one thing really stands out
In our family, it was great
Nanny knit sweaters
Which I wore when I did skate.

When the candlesticks are lit
As I look upon the flame
I think of Nanny Sarah
With love, I say her name.

Like a fisherman who throws his fish back
Thrilled to catch one, to see the water churn
Nanny Sarah was that way with her shopping
One day she'd buy, the next she'd return!

I think back to days at HoJo's
Where the fish fry we did eat
Who can forget our trips to Tony's
That spaghetti couldn't be beat.

Her generous, pure, loving nature
Was too big for her to hold it near
Boundless love like hers required an outlet
So she became a Jewish volunteer.

Having her at our wedding was my dream
More important to me than my dress
The gift of her sweet disposition
Is one that cannot fail to bless.

Joe was her husband a long time
No luckier man could there be
For to know her for nearly six decades
Brought more happiness than most men ever see.

She was truly to me a great Nanny
Though I still love my other no less
But this lovable woman still holds me
With my heart permanently impressed.

So let's keep clear and bright in our thinking
Thoughts of someone so full of good cheer
For whenever her memory we're embracing
We will see dear Nanny Sarah right here.

I'll always love you Nanny!

Love

Amy
