Retirement Poetry to a Favorite Boss - Example
Dear Ron,
Well here we are, who would have thought
We'd ever see the day
When Ron and I would start anew,
No work, it's time to play!
We've seen it all and done it, too
We've laughed and there've been tears
And while I know what we've been through
I can't believe it's been twenty four years!
When Ron asked me to work with him
I knew that I was blessed.
He showed me what it meant to teach
And put me to the test.
Ron has been my boss, it's true,
But it turned out in the end
That he would be much more than that:
A leader, mentor, friend.
He set the stage for learning with his
Announcements in the morning,
And kept it up each afternoon
By giving drivers warning.
At Christmas, Ron would make us smile
In Santa's jolly guise,
When he turned forty, it was our turn
To give him a surprise!
But Ron can always take a joke
And tells them well to boot.
With sparkling wit, his back to school
Letters are such a hoot!
Although he writes and speaks as well
With grace and eloquence,
His keen and thoughtful listening skills
Bring Ron his audience.
He has used those skills for so much good
And brought his school together,
His extraordinary words on 9/11
We'll all remember forever.
When Allison hit, Ron also showed
His resolve and his devotion.
His sense of duty, heart, and strength
Inspired all of our emotions.
It's family, though, where Ron's heart lies
And he has reason to be proud,
With lovely kids, a gorgeous wife,
He's truly been endowed.
Retirement brings more time with them
And time for hobbies, too.
The Baylor teams and Ron's Astros
Will give him lots to do.
Then, of course, there are things that Ron
Will probably always skip,
Like open ocean, spicy foods
And Crawford politics!
But above all, I know that Ron
Will always continue to give
The gifts he brings to all of us,
And the wonderful life he lives.
So as we end one special time
We open more new doors.
Make it a good retirement, Ron,
As you say, the choice is yours.
Love,
Clotile
