Religious Anniversary Poems - An Example
To celebrate a fiftieth anniversary
Is an accomplishment without equal
But to fully understand its magic
Let me introduce two extraordinary people.
A Texan-born and a Navy man,
He was prepared for all life's toil
But Melvin found what would be his career
When engineering led to oil.
A pilot who shared with all his sons
His unbridled love for flight
Might cause us all to wonder if
His namesake was Melvin Wright.
As well, he taught his children faith
And told them as they prayed
That in the toughest times he'd faced
Belief had helped to show the way.
Some associate my father
With names like Spindletop and Odyssey
Because he shared his own good fortune
By supporting worthwhile charity.
Still others know him as a Scout
Whose devotion made him glad
To form new troops wherever he went
From London to Trinidad.
Compassionate, devoted, and courageous,
Are words that well describe my mother,
Who though engaged to one Melvin,
Recognized true love in another.
She devoted her life to her family
And seeing those in need, she did not shirk
Ao she holds the claim to highest success
In the field of social work.
Whether being a leader to the den,
Or founding wives clubs overseas,
She wasn't content just to make the home:
She built communities.
A gardener, she knows great things
Must grow from one small seed,
And so she tirelessly gives herself
To help those who are in need.
Christian fellowship and published works
Round out her accomplishments without end,
But of all of those, I'm most proud to say
I consider her my best friend.
So if as individuals, these two
Have so much to give and share
Perhaps it's obvious that they'd be
Only more perfect as a pair!
And anyone who predicted their happiness
Has reason now to be content
To see them surrounded by their children,
Clark, Sue, Chris and Kent.
They've lived on different continents
As around the globe they've roamed,
But they know each other is all they need
To make a house a home.
Their love has weathered many years
As it's crossed the oceans blue
Yet it stays as pure and precious as
The first time they said I do.
Congratulations and much love on your fiftieth anniversary.
Love,
Helen
