Poems for Mom - An Example

For Bobbette Carlton

Mom, I just decided
That it really was the time,
To summarize your qualities,
In some words, which just might rhyme.

In Missouri you were born,
You ended up in Cottonwood.
In Virginia, Indiana
And Ohio your life was good.

Now you've collected precious objects,
But the greatest one of all,
Was when you found your special treasure,
And you agreed to marry Paul.

And with your kids arriving,
The letter 'D', it did the trick,
Because you named your four great children,
Dianne, David, Doug and Dick.

And speaking of your family,
Your Grandchildren feature too,
Now you've got Tim, Jeff and Michael
Margaret, Meredith and Drew.

Mom, you're famous for your poems,
In your head those rhymes would hatch,
But I'm worried about this one,
I just hope it's up to scratch.

Another thing, I wonder,
When I think, upon reflection,
Will this poem ever make it
Into Margaret's collection??

Your love for things historic,
Was a trend you couldn't stop.
It even reached the final stage,
When you had your own antique shop.

Now, you always loved your travels,
Through the Rockies in the West,
And of those places that you loved,
It seems that Jackson Hole is best.

Down throughout the years,
You used the skills you had at hand,
And those quilts you spent time making,
Can be found throughout the land.

One thing we've always wondered,
So it's a question I must add.
Mom, when you play duplicate bridge,
Why won't you get teamed up with Dad??

Another thing you still enjoy,
Cos' as a lady you're so smart,
Is going out and finding bargains,
Throughout the aisles there in Walmart.

So Mom, I'll finish up this poem,
By saying there can't be another,
Bobbette Carlton you're a treasure,
You're just the perfect wife and Mother.

Love,

David
