Poems for 50th Birthday, An Example

Dear Evan,

Happy birthday, Evan Hensley,
As husbands go, you're nifty.
It's really hard to fathom..
This "Dead Head," now at fifty!

Grew up in Dover, Delaware,
Life was sweet, not hard.
Went to the Academy,
I mean the US Coast Guard.

Loves to sail, I mean it,
He could do it every day.
Looking for good old Evan?
Check out Chesapeake Bay.

We've had a wondrous marriage,
On our wedding day he cried.
I don't say that with disapproval,
Rather with love…and pride.

He tells me all the time
That he loves me oh so much.
He's tall and, well, he's handsome,
And my heart he'll always touch.

We have 3 wondrous kids,
They really are the best.
Evan and Dylan, all grown up,
But listen to the rest.

There's a darling little girl,
For all the world to see.
This cutie's name is Elise,
And she is only three.

Daddy spoils her rotten,
Ice cream for breakfast? Sure.
She keeps us young, you bet,
And that's forevermore.

Evan loves to party,
He'll go far for one -- or near.
And he's known to slake his man-sized thirst,
With a glass -- or keg -- of beer.

He's really into golf of late,
Loves it, man alive!
Putts and chips are lots of fun,
And boy...he sure can drive!

His hockey team's the Flyers,
Raven football? He's a big fan.
Want someone to laze at poolside?
Then Evan is your man.

He always does the crosswords,
Says it keeps him sharp as a tack.
A salesman extraordinaire,
In charm he'll never lack.

He's fun and easy going,
Loyal and very smart.
I love him just so much,
For his warm and tender heart.

Our 22 years together
Have truly been a joy.
Through thick and thin alike,
With this darling, dear man-boy.

So Evan, on your 50th,
With wishes wide as stars above.
For health and joy forever,
And all my warmest, deepest love.

Love,

Leslie
