Poems To Go - Creating Memorable Poems, Speeches, and Toasts for Every Occasion!

Happy Birthday Poem - An Example

Welcome, Jay, to the fortieth year
Of a life that has been quite fine
Filled with all of the things that you ever could want
Engineered by your design

When a man confronts his fortieth
He deserves a nice surprise
And although there’s no stopping the passage of time
Who says that tonight we can’t try?

So we’ve assembled a rowdy crowd tonight
Of the people for whom you care
A party to serve as a friendly reminder
That you’re more than half way there

But we’ll try our best not to cast a pall
After all, it’s never too late
To reflect upon your days gone by
And to a future extremely great

You’ve accomplished so much, in so many ways
To this point in your wonderful life
With a career that is solid and friends all around
And such an incredible wife

You have memories aplenty, going back through the decades
To place upon life’s shelf
With our marriage, and Julia, and family events
And old Mysti, about to turn twelve

You survived through your days of bachelorhood
Which for you was no minor feat
With Don, Ron and Bob throwing outrageous parties
At 18 Gordon Street

Those Simsbury days were wild and fun
We were carefree and life was un-troublesome
Who would ever have guessed you would one day become
Such a conservative hard-line republican

Your political views tend to lean to the right
As you serve on so many committees
Your supporters take pride, with you on their side
It’s the liberal weenies they pity

In the government scene you’ve affected great change
Your public service resume’s filled
With achievements in Weathersfield over the years
And in the political hotbed, Griswoldville

You work non-stop and your life is dynamic
And your energy level won’t cease
As a member of Civitan and Griswoldville Chapel
You are even a Justice of the Peace!

With a life that’s so busy, it’s nice to relax
With a beer, watching Robbie Gordon
But it’s hard to believe with the money you make
Pabst Blue Ribbon is all you’re affordin’

It’s true you’re a tightwad, buying the cheapest of beer
And driving an old man’s Road Master
At the wheel you’re like Schumacher upon your John Deere
I’m not sure which vehicle is faster

You are funny, outrageous, though often impatient
And your political arguments, loud
But we wouldn’t change a thing about you
Just ask the breakfast crowd

Though I try to make him go to the beach
Pete can’t stand the sand in his toes
But with Whitley Streber and the Art Bell show
It’s off to sleep Jay goes

Jay is a picture of youth
As though time for him is frozen
And take my word, he still looks real sexy
In a tight pair of lederhosen

He follows the rules like an engineer would
He can’t tolerate shortcuts or cheaters
Now I hope that this poem hasn’t upset him too much
And he explodes in a “Grandpa Jays”

There’s so much ahead as you look to the future
An adventuresome journey to go
Staying close with your family and friends on the way
And watching young Julia grow

So lay out the blueprints and sketch out a draft
As we toast with Blue Ribbon and wine
To the next forty years that you’ll share with us all
By your innovative design

Love,

Norma
