Graduation Poem - An Example
Dear Charles,
Charles A. Brown,
Stands 6 feet, 2 inches tall.
Now his stature is increasing,
And it's noted, true, by all.
Charles' a college graduate,
Degreed at Pepperdine
Shining now with pride,
A most impressive shine.
He'll be living in Manhattan,
Life there will be a treat
Close to his new job
Working on Wall Street.
Charles is just a great guy,
Likes music, tennis and clothes.
Crazy about his girlfriend, Susie,
As anyone who knows him - knows.
An ardent Yankee fan,
He's always on the go.
Partying with roommate JC
And his other roommate, Joe.
Got short brown hair and baby blues,
Great dimples and broad smile.
Charles is on his way,
With brains and looks and style.
Everybody likes him,
So funny in every way.
Loves to tease his Nanny Irene
Every single day.
This wondrous dinner of ours,
A celebration for Charles dear.
So glad you all could come,
We're thrilled that you're all here.
First with thanks to John and Claire
Who moved Charles in during freshman year.
When goodbye came we cried together,
Your love was oh so clear.
Betty is Charles' godmother,
More like a sister than an aunt.
She'd do anything for Charles,
Doesn't know the meaning of "can't."
Thanks to Sylvia and Allen
Who let us borrow their van
A zillion times throughout four years,
That's quite a lengthy span.
When Charles was little, Sylvia
Played with glee -- with his big ears.
She and Allen sent him off with brownies,
They're true darlings - dears.
Debbie, Dana and George
Helped move Charles in and out.
You got him all through college,
You're the best - without a doubt.
Generosity counts so much,
It makes all feel warm and merry.
So thanks to Craig, Harry and Karen
Debbie, Jill, Jan and Terry.
Also Nanny Sarah, Nanny Irene,
Abby, Robin and Ron.
All of you make the holidays
So special, warm and fun.
Larry started a Mack truck collection,
And Charles loved oh so true.
Charles has since graduated to watches,
Which he only has a few.
With Nanny Irene, things are special.
Charles is her first grandchild.
They have so much fun together,
Their laughter drives me wild.
Godfather Jack, sports fan,
Watched Charles play lots of ball.
Football, lacrosse and hoops,
He's Charles's biggest fan of all.
Liz and Ed are something else,
He taught Charles how computers work.
Now Charles is a computer wiz,
Quite a wondrous perk.
Julia through Charles, it is clear,
Has relived her college days.
Her enthusiasm is something else,
It truly can amaze.
Nanny Sarah is a life saver,
Her care packages always nurtured our boy.
He's a prince as far as she's concerned,
Grandson as chief joy.
Here's to Uncle Herman and Aunt Norma,
And all the lottery tickets they gave.
Charles always loved his gifts,
Rated all with a super rave.
A word for two very special men,
Papa and Grandpa Brown
If only you could be here,
Everyone wants you around.
You'd both be oh so proud of Charles,
As you were forever more.
I'm sure you're watching now,
With love, with pride, for sure.
Special mention has to go,
In largest measure, broadest part,
To the one who means so much,
Who captured Charles's heart.
Here's to Susie, Charles's girlfriend,
Fresh from Buffalo to New York town. .
So glad you're with us, sweetheart
You bring much joy when you're around.
To ALL of you, our greatest thanks,
To Charles you mean the most.
Your thoughts, your deeds, your hearts,
Are truly warm as toast.
Enjoy this great occasion,
A pleasure this life can be.
Please stay in Charles's life,
And watch what he's gonna be.
I'm so very proud of you, dear son,
You touched us all in heart.
Life is beckoning, a brand new chapter,
With all our love - make a great start!
Love,
Mom and Dad
