A 70th Birthday Speech Example

Happy, happy birthday -- and sweet surprise -- to a truly wonderful sister. Mamie, it's amazing to consider that you are 70 years old! Where does the time go? It's like yesterday that we called you GAGA, and that you assumed the role of sibling caretaker when mom and dad went to the farm. Amazing.

Now you're all grown up and ready to retire next year. Let it all happen for you. Find the fun and peace and pleasure and travel that you deserve. We ALL -- your brothers, your sister, your children, your grandchildren, your nieces, your nephews --we wish it on you.

GAGA, you've packed a lot of living into your first 70 years, and in many ways, you've been a colossal inspiration to all of us.

You're a marvel of caring and giving in so many ways.

Your thirty years in working with young children - as a teacher and as an administrator -- is truly outstanding. And you followed it up by opening a daycare center for babies and pre-schoolers. Marvelous!

You're the definition of giving. If someone is in need, we all know that you will be there to help, to share whatever you can, to provide for those who are less fortunate, to be accountable and responsible, decent, thoughtful and helping.

Everyone in the world today is talking about "going green," but you were way ahead of the curve. You've always been one who loves the pure and simple natural beauty of the earth. Your flower gardens are forever a testament to your fantastic green thumb. And anyone who has ever visited you knows all about Mamie's grand garden tour, covering your exquisite rose bushes, fruit trees, pecan trees, grapevines and vegetables that adorn your back yard.

The same touchy-feely wonderful way applies to your love for animals, too -- be they real ones or any one of your ceramic figurines.

I guess it all comes down to a love of life, and a love of the spirit, too. Your spirituality, your love of The Lord, has always been your hallmark, and it's at the core of all you do, all you say, all you are.

It's all part of your attitude, Mamie. Part of how you love to talk to people, how you make people feel good and special, how you stand your ground and make your points time and time again. In short, how you pack so much will, so much stature, so much character in a petite but highly energized frame. Mamie…GAGA…in all the ways that count the most, you simply loom large.

Your children mean the world to you, and now, more than ever, your SEVEN wonderful grandchildren mean even more than ever -- as well they should. They have a wonderful model to live up to. And to gain inspiration from. I mean their grandmother…I mean YOU, Mamie.

So Mamie Anderson Kershaw, aka GAGA forever…on this grandest of occasions, to mark the achievement of 70 years young, we ALL want you to know that you're the very best. And that's precisely what we wish for you -- the very best -- for many more healthy, happy, loving, joyful years to come.

Travel, family, garden…life. Keep on living it to the fullest, Mamie. And know that we -- that all of us -- will love you forever.

Love,

Marier
