Birthday Poem for an Uncle
Dear Ron,
Oh, that Ron Durfey,
What an uncle, what a brother.
Truly, we can say,
There just isn't any other.
What a brother to sister Kathy,
And uncle to our ultimate gain.
We love him so, each one of us,
Michelle, Julie, Christopher and Jane.
Now we celebrate his big birthday,
Is he 70? Yes, it's true!
Ron, you're the very best,
In every thing you do.
Always were a cut up,
Right from the very start.
Growing up in Kingstanding,
The tender loving heart.
Mom Judith, father Tom,
Danny, Michael, Steve and John.
Sisters Kathy and Sheila,
Oh, the goings-on!
Friends would come and go,
Laughter would abound.
Truly, it was the greatest house,
In Kingstanding and all around.
When Kathy was very little,
She and Ron played a regular role.
Poor Kathy cried like waterworks,
So Ron christened her "The Black Hole."
Then, when he promised his mum, Judy,
He'd buy her a fur coat
.
Well, just to set you straight,
She never got it, so all
take note!
When his nephew and nieces came along,
The fun would roll off the blocks.
Especially when Uncle Ron
Tied big knots in our little socks.
That made us fall down with a tiny push,
What a way to play.
Fact is, he made us laugh and laugh,
Sometimes
we laughed all day.
Once on a family holiday,
We took over one corner of the swimming pool.
Ron wheeled Kathy to the other side
Where he left her -- it was cool!
Ron and his wife, Joan,
Had Ian, a beloved son.
And when he was so little,
There was so much fun.
Nan Judy made Ian Bat Man capes,
And he'd always love to play.
But every time he took a cape home,
Mom Joan just threw it away.
"Oh, not another one," Joan would cry,
When she saw Ian's latest Bat Man gear.
No matter, Judy just made more,
On that, our nan was clear.
We're clear on something else, as well,
Uncle Ron is just the best.
Your love, support and all your joy,
Forever stand the test.
To Kathy, you're a brother
Truly extraordinaire.
And to us kids you're really a father,
And that assessment is clear and fair.
So dearest brother and Uncle Ron,
With wishes bright as the sun above.
On this, your special birthday,
We send both thanks and our dearest love.
Love,
Michelle
