These two were a pair, inseparable, you could say and when it was Betty's birthday, Robin asked me to prepare a special poem for her special day. Dear Amy, "You're a gem. This is my third time back and your poems are simply the best!"

A Birthday Poem for a Cousin - An Example

For Betty

I'm here today to say some words
About a special cousin,
If all our friends could be like her
I'd order up a dozen.

It's Betty's birthday as we know,
So don't think me amiss
As I ramble up and down the years
And start to reminisce.

A lady of impeccable taste
And certainly no fool
As she sits here happily married
To her sweetheart from high school.

Jim and Betty took to love
Just like a duck to water,
And God sent them their precious gift,
That's Emily their daughter.

And then of course in nature's way,
Their Grandkids did appear.
David's almost four years old
And Sam's in his first year.

I never will forget how,
When our Grandchildren were due,
Amy gave me Julie,
And Bradley was for you.

Our conversations on the phone,
Exchanging both our thrills.
You know I often wonder
How we ever paid those bills!!

Now I know Betty, you're one ahead,
Jim beat us at the post.
But I also know when I catch up
You'll be there for me the most.

It still warms my heart today,
And it's not so long ago,
Me and Betty danced our legs off
At Aunt June's studio.

Dancing was a joy for us
And it still is today,
I remember Betty's pleasure
At her audition on Broadway.

It seemed like only yesterday
We'd wait in trepidation,
To don our shoes, put on our dress
And dance a demonstration.

In Bergdorf Goodman's that one time,
Nutcracker on a cell
I said to you, 'Hey that's my cue'
And about the place we fell.

Good times and bad we were a team
In each and every way.
And I won't forget your dignity
Through Aunt Ida's final days.

There's times when we just talk and laugh,
From an airport or hotel,
And if JIm is busy with his work,
You're in the bathroom on your cell.

But now I'd like to finish up,
And this message to you send.
Betty, you're just wonderful,
My cousin, and my friend.

Love,

Robin
