A Birthday Poem
Dear Friends and Family,
Here's big news for all,
Just for your ears and eyes.
A birthday bash for my Sam,
And hey -- it's a surprise.
Yep, Samuel J. Goldberg -- a birthday,
The moment has arrived.
Sam's in that lofty sphere.
In fact, he's sixty-fived!
He's such a sweetheart, truly,
Fun with him never ends.
He thinks our party's a teeny one.
In truth? Some 100 dear friends!
We'll celebrate his lovely life,
For me he's just pure joy.
My life changed forever
When I met this dear ol' boy.
'Twas a blind date at Longfellows,
We dined and how we talked!
Then afterward, how nice,
To my car we walked.
'Course from the shades and the shadows
Came a man -- and not for fun.
Sam took it all in stride.
Me? I pulled a gun.
The shadow guy panhandled,
And Sam was, well, he was shocked.
But life went on, we fell in love,
Oh, how my world was rocked!
He's sweet and kind and gentle,
An old hippie, that he is.
Meticulous at all he does,
Especially when it comes to biz.
In the 10 years we're married,
He's "Big Daddy" to my kids, so fine.
Now he'll be a grandpa of his own
And he's really on Cloud Nine!
Our family -- all of us -- we're about
Unconditional, heartfelt love.
That night at Longfellow's?
Someone smiled at me from above.
Now Sam's into wines,
Drinking, knowing, pairing and looking.
I just wish he'd learn his boundaries
And leave to me the cooking.
We went to NC, he's from Chapel Hill,
Leased a house with his Mom on the coast.
I watched them, tenderly, together,
It was a week for the heart, I can boast.
You'll find him in Aurora Park,
A gourmet picnic is his style.
And if you see us there,
You'll see me with a smile.
And may we see you at our gala,
A celebration for Sam will be heaven.
The date is Saturday, March twenty-five,
Please join us here at seven.
Surprise my sweetheart husband,
Come and share our glee.
We'll touch upon the stars,
Just Sam and you and me!
