Poems for a 60th Wedding Anniversary
Dear Mom and Dad,
This story starts way back in time,
Out on a dairy farm,
Dad used to go there for his milk,
Instead, he found a girl with charm.
The seeds of love were planted then,
When Dad was on vacation,
But like many young men, he signed up,
And went off to serve his nation.
But distance couldn’t hold them back,
These two were truly bonded,
And while Dad was in the Air Force,
Through the mail, they corresponded.
I guess the rest is history,
But I’d like you all to know,
A little more about this couple,
Who wed sixty years ago.
Mom worked as a nurse back then,
As nature had intended,
With her loving ways and gentle touch,
At her job she was just splendid.
And Dad he had his new career,
Now, please, hold back the groans,
Some say he was a ding a ling,
Cos’ he went round fixing phones.
Through their life together,
They both found a true accord,
At the St. Mary's Church,
In the service of the Lord.
Of course they had two daughters,
The two luckiest girl’s in town,
So many great vacations,
Were the jewels in our crown.
When we were both much younger,
Everything seemed, oh so pretty,
As we went off on our annual trip,
Down to New Jersey, Ocean City.
Our parents love to travel,
They’ve seen many lovely places,
But Dad, it’s even better,
When you don’t forget your cases.
In New York, a small disaster,
Made my father’s face turned red,
When they checked into a hotel,
Where they found a broken bed.
Staying briefly in the bedroom,
Mom, for Dad’s sake we implore,
Please don’t change the beds location,
And have him falling on the floor.
This whole family is a unit,
And we’ll always be that way,
Once we all went off to Nassau,
Where we spent our Christmas Day.
The whole family’s here together,
To join in these celebrations,
Too many loved ones now to list,
But we have reached four generations.
So from all your loving family,
There’s just one last thing to say,
May God bless and keep you both,
And let’s enjoy this special day.
Happy 60th Anniversary!
Love,
Stacey
