60th Anniversary Poem Example

To Ethelene and J.V.
(To us that’s Mom and Dad)
Here’s celebrating sixty years –
A reason to be glad!

You met in Crossville, Tennesee,
(Dad dated Aunt Odean)
But when Mom caught Dad’s eye he knew
The one was Ethelene!

You settled there in Crossville and
Remained til ‘53
Then on to Oak Ridge where you have
Since then lived happily.

Mom keeps the house immaculate
And yet you never see
Her doing heavy cleaning --
It’s done effortlessly.

And what a cook! Amazing!
Her fried chicken’s the best!
We tease we ought to tip here,
To that Mom does protest.

Mom is so neat and tidy
Dad says he is afraid
He’ll leave his bed one minute,
Come back to find it made!

Mom likes us to be punctual,
Despises being late –
As kids we’d hurry everywhere
Then for ten minutes wait.

Dad is the one we go to
For counsel, wisdom, truth.
He also entertains us
With stories from his youth.

They worship at the Church of Christ,
They both watch Dylan play,
With Perry and Maxine they dine
Each week on Saturday.

Like Ozzie and his Harriet
Our parents let us grow
Through wond’rous years of childhood
And little did we know --

‘Til we ourselves had grown some,
Had our own children, too --
How much they’d sacrificed so we
Could know the life we knew.

For many years on Mother’s Day
Keith knew he’d not go wrong
By giving mandevilla vines
That flower’d all summer long.

They say in what the parents do
Their children carry on –
In this case, Dad picked up when Keith
Had sadly too soon gone…

Now Dad provides the vines in May
That bloom all summer long,
A witness to a family’s love
That’s now sixty years strong.

And so congratulations and
Continued blessings, too
Are what we wish you, Mom & Dad -
And know that we love you!

Love,

Donna
