50th Anniversary Poem - A Sample

What do you say, what do you know?
Big news about Paula and Joe.
Yell it out so everyone hears,
These two together – it’s now fifty years!

Who can believe it, how is it so?
Tell everyone – doubter and smarty.
It’s true, time flies and love goes on…
Fifty big ones since Jaime’s party!

That’s where Paula and Joe did meet,
Since then they’re not alone.
At the party they hit it off real big,
Next day, Joe made a call with the phone.

He rang Paula and spoke his mind,
Words he did not mince.
It worked so well, a chord was struck,
They’re together ever since.

In high school, Paula knew he was her guy,
She’d peek out at him through her books.
Had a great way, truly a wondrous style,
And just ask Paula about his looks.

In hallways at school she swooned like pup,
But would he ever look back?
Paula didn’t now how to get his attention,
She even asked his buddy boy, Jack.

Today Joe’s with the FDNY,
Paula is in marketing shoes.
But more than that, they’re really in love,
Just stop and see the clues.

It’s in their sarcastic names,
Perfectly clear.
She calls him "her angel,"
For him, she is "dear."

And life, it goes on,
Each has their own dreams,
Take Joe, for example,
On a motorcycle, it seems.

He might get his bike,
All vigor and vim,
Meanwhile he spends
Lots of time at the gym.

And mountain biking is his favorite pastime,
But it sometimes will leave him quite stiff.
. Like that day years ago – he went full speed ahead
And then he fell down a big cliff.

But now Joe is perfect, so hale and so well,
And always so quick and so pert.
It must be Paula who takes great care of him,
And feeds him all up on desert.

So fifty years together, in love and in joy
For Paula and her angel, her Joe.
The life that they live, so happy it seems,
Sweet as back fifty long years ago.

And Joe puts out fires, for that he gets paid,
And he always does more than his part.
But one fire you know that he’ll NEVER put out
Is the one raging in Paula’s heart.

I love you!

Love,

Paula
