40th Birthday Greeting - A Sample
Dear Debra,
My daughter, Debra, I can’t believe,
This girl I so adore.
Will reach the age of thirty years
Come January four.
My darling, she is golden,
A lovely, dear, sweet miss.
A gem like all my children,
Like Michelle, Julie and Chris.
Debra, at first, was hell on wheels,
A handful as a teen.
Always fussing, fighting and stirring up,
Well…you know what I mean.
But now she’s older, and a pip,
Believe it if you can.
Just look at the love she lavished
On her dear old darling nan.
Nan Elsie was old and all abed,
She could, at times, barely stir.
But Debra would lend a helping hand
And take great care of her.
So different from the days of old
When Nan was truly a card.
She’d squeeze young Julie and Debra by the arm,
And for Debra it was extra hard!
Debra’s truly a great daughter,
And a fabulous young mother.
Ask her children, Ellis and Bailey,
They’ll agree, she’s like no other.
Debra, so easy to laugh at it now,
How you’d always speak your mind.
You were always one in a million,
Strictly one of a kind.
Like when you were a toddler
And in a hospital bed.
The way you just demanded
Those boots you loved – the red?
Or your fabled trip to Tunisia
A classic holiday.
When Uncle Tommy and Auntie Joan
Realized hell to pay.
Remember you and Julie
Floating way out to sea?
Poor Uncle Tommy waving on shore
While you brats laughed hysterically.
Or how about that beachfront walk
When you found an idle boot.
Tossed it far out in the water,
And made its owner blow his toot!
Yes, Debra, you always made us laugh
No excitement would we lack.
All of us, we loved you –
Even, remember…"Up Debra’s Back?"
Or how about the time you kids,
With Auntie Sheila’d linger
In a place called Sutton Park
To savor tales of "The Boney Finger."
Or Sandwell Valley, that’s the place
One can only dream,
The way you ran – in a tantrum, yes,
My goodness, how you screamed!
Those childhood days they disappear
Soon lost without a trace.
They’re gone, those days I made you laugh
With my classic "Popeye Face."
But the laughs live on, we bellow, we roar,
And always lots of rants.
For God’s sake, Debra, I can’t believe…
In the window – you pulled down my pants!
‘Course now you’re a grown up caterer,
A woman in the know.
But you’re still my darling girl
And I’ll always love you so.
And on this day, your birthday,
It’s my pleasure to declare.
How much, dear Debra, we wish you,
How much we’ll always care.
Happy 30th Birthday!
Love,
Mom
